CONCEPTUAL ILLUSTRATION · NOT PERFORMANCE OR LIVE MARKET DATA
01

The underlying idea

A grid distributes potential entries across defined price intervals. Some implementations add in the direction of movement; others add against it. Spacing, lot progression, and the maximum number of positions are separate design choices. A grid is not automatically a martingale.

02

Where it is commonly discussed

Grid methods are frequently discussed in oscillating markets where price revisits earlier levels. That pattern can support repeated exits, but it is an assumption rather than a dependable property of a market. A program cannot compel the price to return.

03

Limitations and failure conditions

A sustained one-way move can leave an expanding losing basket. Closing profitable trades can improve the balance while equity falls. Increasing volume after losses compounds exposure, and margin liquidation may occur before a reversal. Hedging adds further accounting and cost questions.

04

Questions for evaluating an automated system

Translate the strategy description into a testable sequence of observations, orders, sizing decisions, and exits. Keep assumptions fixed when comparing alternatives. A label describes a family of ideas, not a complete implementation.

  • What is the maximum gross volume if all permitted levels fill?
  • Are exits based on individual trades, baskets, or account equity?
  • Does a historical report include unresolved losing positions at its end?
A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Common questions

Does automating this strategy make it profitable?+

No. Automation applies rules; it does not establish an advantage after costs or guarantee future results.

How should an evaluation begin?+

Document the rules, exposure limits, and execution assumptions. Use realistic historical tests, untouched data, and a monitored demo. Examine failure scenarios as well as the overall result.
